The Beach
Located on the south coast between Penzance and Helston, Praa Sands is a beautiful village, famous for its beautiful, mile long, golden sandy beach which can
produce excellent waves for keen surfers. The far end, known as Hendra, is very family friendly and perfect for paddling.
Right on the beach is a surf/beach shop and two bars offering delicious food and drink with fantastic views.
The beach has seasonal lifeguard cover and is dog-friendly, except between 10am – 6pm, 1st July – 31st August. There are many other opportunities for dog-walking, and many nearby coves/beaches have no restrictions.
Travel
The village of Praa Sands is just off the A394. The park is on a local bus route leisurely travelling the 13 miles or so between Penzance and Helston – the double-decker bus offers great views over the South Coast. The bus timetable uses Trewartha Road as its way-point to show scheduled and expected times in both directions, which is just near the Park entrance.
The South West Coast Path is 5 minutes away, providing relatively easy walks to the East and West. The beautiful harbour town of Porthleven is less than 5 miles by the Path, it takes around 2 hours to do a reasonabaly challenging hike.
Trains travel frequently from Penzance to St Erth, Hayle, and St Ives. If you want to visit St Ives, highly recommended to park at St Erth and take the 10 minute trip by train.
